Budhe Dada

Today it's been one year since I joined the civil services. As a history student I tend to give some importance to dates and 'historical causation.' Would like to share something thought provoking with you all. In the photo, that is my Great Grandfather seated between my Grandfather and me. I call him 'budhe dada.'

He could never read or write, but back in 1950s, he decided that even though he had never gone outside his village, his son would have an education. His son (my Dadaji) sent his children to study beyond the district, across the state. His son (my father) took me across the country to receive an education.

And when someone asks me what was the 'turning point' in your life, I think it was that one day in the 1950s when budhe dada decided to send dadaji to school. Now that I explain my Great-Grandfather that I will be working for the country abroad, he doesn't understand. He doesn't even remember my name and mostly forgets even his son's name.

It is strangely unsettling when you are at the receiving end of all the praise and admiration for your achievement while the person who is perhaps the most responsible for it sits quietly aloof- maybe trying to remember a certain day in the 1950s.

I usually read your blog posts from the emails I receive from Besan ka Halwa, but when I read this, I couldn’t keep myself from visiting here to post a comment. We usually are so engrossed running for achievements that we forget where it all started. This is lovely and so empowering. Rightly said, just one person is enough to begin a revolution. Not to deny that you are also one of the most privileged for whom the revolution began long ago in his great grandfather’s mind. For many of us, it has just started with our parents. I am so glad people like you and me never forget to acknowledge that it all began with just one commitment for their children. I also hope we can bring this change in the lives of so many who are still unable to recognize what impact education can bring in their lives and of their children.
This is the best thing I read today. Thank you for sharing this precious moment.

Thanks for sharing such a valuable moment with us. Felt glad to see Budhe Dada alive, whose one step towards providing education to his children has given it's sweet fruits long back in the form of our beloved commander and now your success story. All praise to him whose one decision in 1950's has brought all this revolution and at the same time more important is the hard work that you put in to earn a well deserved status. We take it as an honour to say that you belong to us because your dad (our beloved commander)is more than a family member of every Trehgami and he resides in our hearts.Dear Vikram, this is giving me immense pleasure and a sense of pride that my younger brother has achieved what others can only dream of. Hello Vikram

I have two things to say first one is not important(you can choose;P) but second one important:

1. There is a coconut tree in our garden planted by my grandfather who was a farmer by proffession when I wasn't even born. He took care of it all his life but couldn't taste any. Today it's My father and me enjoying our lockdown with the healthy coconut water!!
Every step we make today concious or unconcious holds effect on our future.

2. I have read NCERT 6 to 10 thinking I would be able to cover science and tech question for GS-3 but as soon as I took the previous paper I found question like: Discuss the work of ‘Bose-Einstein Statistics’ done by Prof. Satyendra Nath Bose and show how it revolutionized the field of Physics. (2018)- And I new nothing more than that it is a matter found him.

See i know that we have a topic in syllabus - achievements of Indians in Science and tech. Can you please tell me how to go about this topic?

thank you

Sir you made me think of what my grandfather would have thought which led my life to the present, where I have everything I want.

It is indeed funny how the 'historical causation' leads everything back into the time to some remarkable moment which wasn't so remarkable then to the people living it. And yet here we are recalling such moments as though it all has made and makes perfect sense.
